people cant help but model spongebob way too detailed and at his most oppressively positive. he's supposed to look positive, not MANIC
it requires a lot more subtlety and work to not make him look demented. in moving him to 3d, a lot of modellers steamroll aspects that are taken for granted in the 2d plane like his lip, the black outlines of various parts of his person, his chin, etc and lazily allowing lighting to add too much shadow around his cheeks
this fangame has a better looking model but in-motion it suffers slightly from the problem of having an always on smile and general hyperactivity. i think taking a look at style sheets and character guides for the show to see how spongebob is actually supposed to be drawn when doing things or at certain angles would help animators and modellers a lot
