I shit you not, some people were fucking FUMING and fighting in forums over this when the game came out because there's only two possible takeaways from this scene:
1.- It's possible that centuries have happened between this scene and the events of the game that the tale went from historic to fictional once it was passed down through many generations. Considering the author of the book was one of the main characters of the game that died but maybe survived in the end somehow and decided to write it down.
2.- It's possible that it really was a fictional story inside a fictional setting.

This short 2 minute scene was enough to make people go mad cause apparently they cannot fathom that a fictional story is indeed fictional. Some people have a parasocial relationship with stories to the point that the moment an author doubles down reassuring them that their story is indeed fictional they lose their shit and remember that none of it is real
