The blush coloring the Oni's face is so gorgeous; your fatigue is the only thing stopping you from teasing her further. Gosh! She's so cute! I really want to do it now. ''Duly...noted.''
''Deeds and hearts proved your souls, friends.'' Is your dad's simple answer as he keeps staring into the quiet fire. ''I'll honor my daughter's soul and extend my trust. Seyraphal, could you repeat what you've told us during Rey's nap?''
Seyraphal antennas almost sound like a bell jingle when they twitch. ''I told you about my druidic abilities, right? That I can glean information when I...consume bodies?''
You silently answer by gently holding one of her lower arms.
''I did so with a few of the dogs and the...Risen one.'' You feel her three long fingers curl around your palm.
''I think most of the dogs belonged to the nearby eastern farms on the plain; they were attracted here by a song. Something that... resonated with their instincts, guiding them here and they somehow died. As if their lifeforce was drained, the dogs laid down and slept while listening to that song, never to wake again.''
''Sometimes it was a man singing, another a woman, then they'd continue together.'' She says while rubbing two hands together, keeping her dark eyes on the fire. ''Dogs senses are incredibly different, so I couldn't make any sense of words, nor did I see anyone when they passed away.''
''...A song?'' Nobody can answer your question. What kind of entity could produce something so hypnotic for dogs?
''The Risen one was a Mamono.'' What? No way! That thing was...Seyraphal took a bite out of a fellow monster?
''I couldn't glean anything about her distant past or identity, only some memories of last month. I know she left the monster village with a peculiar purpose, an objective in mind that had her investigate the city after a successful human shapeshifting, but after that...'' Closing her eyes and pinching her forehead, Seyraphal takes a moment to parse her memory. ''...She somehow found herself in the forest here surrounded by a group of men, killed and left to rot.'' Seyraphal ended her talk with a long, weary sigh.
Two new mysteries have been uncovered.
Around twelve dogs from the surrounding farms have been lured into the two small forests next to your house and have died from a suspicious phenomenon: a hypnotic song.
A Mamono from the village snuck out in a successful human shapeshifting disguise. She was on some kind of mission. She was killed by a group of men in the forest near your home roughly last month.
''...Thanks, Sey.'' It mustn't have been easy, remembering that. Keeping your hands together doesn't make her uncomfortable, so you don't try to untangle your locked fingers. Smooth and warm.
