The tariff shit has been his obsession since the 80s. There are a lot of conflicting interests and everyone is just sycophanting him while pursuing their own agendas but I'm willing to bet most of his admin aside from Navarro weren't that keen on declaring a trade war on the entire world. That's entirely his baby and it will be the perfect storm of all these competing shitshows that will weaken America in ways I don't think most people are even able to appreciate yet.
