I knew a guy that was in the marines and did some tours in Afghanistan during the 2010s. Overall what he described the whole experience of such tours as "shitty and boring". He said a lot of the time was just waiting around and doing patrols and the only "exciting" times was when they were fucking and joking around with locals and in the rare occasions they ended up taking firing from a mountain side and just magdumping half their ammo in that direction and calling in an airstrike in that general direction much like picrel. Those "firefights" were very rare according to him.
The best times really he told me was the times he gets deployed over here in Kuwait because literally it's a fucking vacation for zogbots here especially if they get permission to leave the base. The mutt base here literally has an Applebees and a BK and if they are lucky sometimes a famous artist like Beyonce would come down there and perform a concert for them.

Will say though I hooked up with a lot of barrack bunnies during those times whenever they were able to get out of the base to get some "local kebab". The Air Force girls were the best
