Here's the last post as a recap:
“I think you were right about going to the Kaiju King, Grandma Young.” you admitted, leaving the tavern along with the others. “We'll need his help to organize a response.”
Young grabs you by the hand, and quickly pulls you out of the way of an oncoming troll. You were still a little shaken by the close call when you felt Young still squeezing your hand. It was gentler this time, though.
“I'm glad we're on the same page.” Young agreed, rubbing the back of your hand with her thumb. “If what we heard is true, we'll need his help to slay the Kaiju playing for the other team.”
“Let’s just hope they didn't make too many.” Deadhead commented.
“What's the matter? Not excited for your first giant monster battle?” Ben teased.
“Almost got digested once.” Deadhead said bitterly. “I try to keep that kind of activity down to an absolute minimum these days.”
“Try not to go down without a fight.” Ben recommended.
“Make them choke on it.” Harpy hissed from behind you.
“Aim for sensitive areas.” Ana advised.
“They're more likely to be picking you out of their teeth.” Young added unhelpfully.
“Fuck you all very much.” Deadhead blurted out, his choice of words telling you just how much he appreciated all the unsolicited advice from the group.
He walked up to stand opposite Young, and gave you a pat on the back. Young's posture changed, ever so slightly, and you knew that she was preparing for him to do something stupid.
“Come on. Time's wasting. Let's go see this ‘Kaiju King’ guy.” he encouraged.
“Sure. But…maybe don't call him that during the meeting.” you said, feeling your ears bounce and your tail wag as a result of your jovial remark.
Instead of getting annoyed, however, you focused on getting them back under control right away. In order to master this new form, you would have to be conscious of every movement. No matter how small.
As your group started walking towards the palace, Ben moved closer to you as well. He didn't seem entirely comfortable with letting a mercenary like Deadhead get this close to you, and after the ambush you all just escaped from, you couldn't blame him for being a little paranoid.
—----
It didn't take long for you all to get tired of the traffic, and, before you knew it, you ended up using the nearby buildings as terrain.
Deadhead wasn't as agile as any of you, and had to be carried by Harpy. Neither of them seemed pleased with the arrangement.
Harder still was your ascent of the palace steps. You, Ana and Young, who was now in her ‘young adult’ form, raced up the steps so quickly that it was hard to keep track of your legs.
