I don't recall any school teacher ever plainly saying what adult life was supposed to be like or what to do about it. It was all pay attention, get good grades, go to university or at least college, ???, succeed. Only in university, in my 4th year, did one professor come out and say "look, this degree doesn't lead to any jobs. You've got your work cut out for you to succeed in this field. Be prepared". I listened but I wasn't prepared enough. I didn't account for the jeet wave. I achieved my middle class aspirations but what middle class was when I set those goals is not what it is now.
