So to start with solid hats off from me to the great lyrics that are basically Evelyn and later Astra pouring out her heart and story. Alone they tell a great story and it would have already been a great song if that was all. However Hoyo took it two steps further to push this into the running of favorite ZZZ song for me.
Next Ill shine my adoration on the storytelling that the animation itself lends to everything. The lyrics match the mood of whats being shown onscreen up to and including how the songs volume and power wax and wane in order to really showcase Evelyn and Astras feelings about each other. When Evelyns being thoughtful onscreen the mood turns somber in the song. When shes decisive and putting her plans into action it brings in the power chords while the vocalist puts real emotion into her singing. Just excellence through and through.
But what really made me tear up. What brings it into the realm of awesome. You can tell exactly when Evelyn stops trying to hide her true self from Astra and really forms a connection with her. The entire first two n half minutes of the song its purely Evelyn singing and telling her story and emotions. But right after she doubles down on her efforts to learn how to cook for Astra and actually serves her a good meal Astra enters the song too answering Evelyns efforts.
Evelyns You showed me the path followed immediately by Astras Ill be right here. indicating that Astra is having the same feelings towards Evelyn. And from there the way that the two vocalists start singing together accompanying each other with call and response yet offbeat and out of sync when singing the same line. tells the story of how theyre trying to find the balance with each other. Unsure at first faltering at points but slowly and surely finding their equilibrium before finally in the final few lines of the song theyre singing completely insync with each other. harmony at last.
Absolutely chefs kiss of a production. 11/10
