I make them webm because VP9 is a much more efficient compression codec than anything MP4 has available and 4chan has tight filesize constraints.
I don't care about you being able to repost them on twitter, and you could just convert them to mp4 with ffmpeg easily or not be trying to save and repost already compressed 4chan webms somewhere else in the first place.
