Konami just has zero clue how to give players old yugioh while still being able to continuously milk them for money at the same time. They 100% refuse to give us a retro client unless they can figure out a way to monetize the shit out of it.
>old formats IRL don't receive new cards obviously, so they can't keep selling people new stuff. they can only sell so many old reprints before everything is dirt cheap
>people don't want to play ancient GBA vidya, especially with no or limited online play. The Early Days Collection was a massive flop
>can't introduce permanent old formats in Master Duel because once you craft your few old UR staples you never have to spend money again
>Duel Links started off as a cool mix of old and new cards at a low power level. But now the powercreep has gone so far that it's basically caught up with modern ygo
>Speed Duel was a flop. Players didn't want to re-buy the same cards they've had in a shoebox for 2 decades just so it can have "SPEED DUEL" printed on it
>Rush Duel doesn't play like real retro yugioh and Konami knows it would most definitely flop in the West
