Homosexuals have been prosecuted in the west for hundred of years, mainly thanks to the introduction of Christianity. We did nothing, had no parades, and yet for hundreds of years we were shunned and killed. What can we conclude except that silently suffering wasn't working to make them accept us?
We had to shift tactics. Pride parades didn't occur until the 1960s. Within half a century or so we won the right to marry, and most of the country is cool with letting us live. So no, pride parades didn't stop us from letting it be a whatever thing. Instead it brings us closer to a future where they won't be needed.
