I’m a 17-year-old girl who’s been working at this job for over a year, and I absolutely hate it. Despite being kind to customers and completing my tasks correctly, my managers and coworkers treat me terribly for no reason. I want more hours, but they only schedule me for four hours a week, always on Saturday mornings with the two harshest managers. They run things differently, making their jobs easier and mine harder. For example, they force me to park every order, even when customers already have their items, while they chat about random stuff. They constantly criticize me for not being fast enough, but I’m overwhelmed juggling coffee prep, pouring drinks, adding extras, presenting orders, and handling receipts—tasks beyond my role’s expectations. It’s unfair to blame me for struggling with this workload. My favorite coworker apologized for the managers’ behavior, recognizing how poorly I’m treated, though the managers never would. I hesitate to say it’s about race, but as the only minority with my skin color on shift, I wonder if that’s a factor. I’m fed up with the mistreatment and lack of support.
