If Strelok was able to build a kill on sight wall around the whole exclusion zone, why didn't c-con do the same from the start to keep all the stalkers out of the center? There's no reason to bother with a brain scorcher or monolith if you can just cast a huge fuck off barrier around yourself. Was that ever explained?
