I skipped myself. With the dealer's incomprehensible riichi, he might now deal into me and a tsumo is enough for 1st. With my current hand I was prepared to take 2nd anyway until the riichi, and the hatsu poses no risk of dealing in.
If I kan and draw something dangerous, I'd probably not feel good about pushing it. While I can tank a dealer mangan without dropping to 4th, I'd still rather take 2nd than 3rd. And definitely wouldn't like to see some dora 5 oya haneman deal-in 4th place because I called the kan.
