What I don't like is how Ralsei would acknowledge this, but then pretend that absolutely nothing happened, especially considering his little character arc he gets in Chapter 4. Beating the Knight then and there would avert the tragic prophecy, and I can't see Ralsei not feeling some sort of negative way about Kris going out of their way to keep the prophecy on the rails. This theory would also imply that Kris is sandbagging HARD and I can't see anyone, including the player, forgiving them for intentionally nerfing themselves when the gang has been in great peril more than once. Most damningly is how Kris flips out when both Ralsei and Susie are down in the Knight fight and starts doing real damage with basic attacks. Kris is definitely working with the Knight, but it looks like a far-less "buddy-buddy" situation than what most think.
