It's a quiet week this week with little of interest to note.
The ITF W50 Nottingham is underway, and it's a very mediocre entry list for this category of event. Neither Hannah Klugman or Mimi Xu are taking part, and Mika :) is visiting family in Poland. Most entrants are from outside the top 300, although there is going to be some shameless vulturing from Chinese veteran Zhang Shuai, currently 120 in the world. The LTA have scraped the barrel by dishing out main draw wildcards to no-hopers Holly Hutchinson, Victoria Allen, Danielle Daley and Eva Shaw, which tells you everything you need to know. Other than Zhang, the most notable participant is Mariam Bolkvadze, a longtime London resident.
Our Katie :) won the W35 in Spain last week as she continues her comeback from injury. She has stayed in Spain for the W75 in Vitoria, and plays Nahia Berecoechea of France in the first round.
Meanwhile, Fran Jones has entered the WTA 250 in Iasi, Romania, and takes on Spanish qualifier Alicia Herrero Linana in her opening match. English rose Emily Appleton is in the doubles draw.
The only junior event with big points to collect is the clay J200 in Colombia, where we have a single entry, 14 year old Clarice Ouvarova.
There is also a J30 in Weybridge played on grass, which enjoys the poshest location of any GB junior event, taking place at St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club. Lily Haley, the promising 13 year old recently snatched from South Africa, played her first round match earlier today but lost in three sets to an unseeded player, perhaps demonstrating the quality gap between African junior events and those in Europe. Cassius Haye, son of former boxer David, won his opener in the boys draw.
