I'm not a Christian and both BoI and CotL are utterly disgusting and repulsive to me. It's the weird current of Infantalization and preoccupation with literal shit that skeeves me out. It just screams that the devs were diddled as kids. There's something deeply unpleasant about the presentation and tone of both these games and other media of the same ilk like happy tree friends. The mutilation of innocence is repulsive. I guess it speaks to fucked in the head cute aggression motherfuckers. CotL is so much worse than Isaac in this regard too. Issac at times feels like an authentic expression of its creator's childhood trauma. The aesthetic and theming is uncomfortable but the intention seems muted. CotL seems like the devs naked fetish. It doesn't seem as natural and feels very forced and amplified a focus on that warped perspective. It is also the darling of rabid ex christian reactionaries and tumblrites. There's so much stink on this game I don't see how anyone could find it appealing in any way. It's also an objectively shitty game whereas Isaac was foundational in its impact on the industry.
