I like how Ilberd's name is a foreshadowing of what he does later.
Ilberd sounds like ill bird.
Ill, depending on how its used in wordplay, can mean that the sickness is not just a physical one, it can also be a mental one. Or even some evil morals can be seen as ill. That and the mental ones fit Ilberd perfectly as he's portrayed evil, seen as evil and mentally broke enough to summon a primal born from hate, he even tossed himself into death's embrace.
And the Berd bit, his identity hidden by The Griffin, a creature with a bird's head.
Truly, Ilberd is an Ill Bird.
