I've never used Linux Mint but I've heard that it has very outdated packages. Doesn't seem ideal for gaming, where you especially want the latest drivers for your GPU.
Consider Endeavour OS, it's Arch based just like Steam OS.
Also, you can use the arch wiki for a lot questions you will have. It's gonna save you a lot of time.
