Aryan designates the noble castes. Technically a person of any race can be an Aryan if they satisfy the qualifications for being one (Knowledge/Conduct/Virtue). The racial/hereditary aspect is only a part of the equation.
All that being said, genetic analysis on proto-Iranic tribes which most likely appeared somewhere around the Northern coast of the Black Sea shows them to be pretty similar to modern day Europeans. This also fits with the Greek descriptions of Scythians (an Iranic tribe) as being very light-skinned, blue-eyed, blond/red-haired... etc. Iranics used to be very prominent in this area and bordered Slavs, which is why Slavic languages have important Iranic words such as "Bog" and "Duša".
