Certainly the rites of valour and the warrior, and ritualised traditions of violence (mensur) common to our people go along quite well with that. however I'd say that there is a bit more than violence enforcing law. Our ancestors were not materialists, they believed in the active influence and presence of the gods and powers, and would not embark upon war without performing auspices and sacrifices to ascertain divine favour. It certainly was not a weak slave religion of women and slaves. but of a Mars, of a Jupiter and a Hercules.

They very much believed in the presence of divine forces, seen in the Roman concept of fas intuits the 'law of the gods' and 'pact with the gods'. This was kept up to the middle ages in knighthood despite the Christian veneer. A knight needed no permission to kill for divine law. The modern police forces and courts run on jewish rationalist concepts of the enlightenment that makes everyone equal.

So I wonder what a religion that teaches you to be pacifist and self-effacing does to the rites of the warrior.
