The best gear I saw so far was the gear in the town past the check point. I already had the fire and thunder 50K emblems. If I replace 3/5 of my support equipment with these swords (I assume these are the best balance of atk and bonus damage), I can do ~50% more damage but that's still too weak (I'll be out of TP) and without the shield I had, he'll do enough damage to kill me in 5 turns or so.
