I don't think Tifa was supposed to be asian (there were like 2 games copying Jennifer Connelly) but Advent Children had Tifa being an obvious Rinoa homage (Rinoa is asian) and people like that so they stuck with it.
FFX is also a mess with races with them looking asian in their cgi version but European in the normal models (and Noctis goes from asian to white kek)
