>Scuttle closer
>The boy looks really pale and sick, slumped against the wall
>Starved as if he hadn't eaten anything since that last time he ate Snaust's provisions
>Scuttle even closer
>His breath is labored, his mouth mumbling nonsense words
>A pool of viscous, red liquid grows under him
>Finally get close enough to touch him
>His skin is clammy and almost as cold as the cobblestones under Snaust
>His eyes that do not see anymore land on Snaust
>He's weakly calling for his mother
>Asks for her to tell him a bedtime story, one last time
>Snaust doesn't have a storybook with her, so Snaust decides to nestle under his arm and starts telling him a story she made up on the spot
>Snaust is sure the story was really good, with twists and turns and heroic characters, but can't really remember a single word of it later
>Eventually, once Snaust's story comes to an end, Snaust notices the boy had fallen asleep
>He's really cold now and his breathing so shallow Snaust can't even notice his chest moving
>Snaust gathers some nearby pieces of loose cardboard and piles them up over the sleeping boy for warmth
>Despite everything, Snaust hopes that she had helped out if even a little in the end
>No one deserved to be cold, hungry and alone
