obviously people will have different taste. I saw the anime a long time ago which endeared me a lot to them. I think the ID L - 4U era of tamas also does a good job at conveying their silly quirks with the tamatomo and simple dialogue (I love the personality stages of the 4U, some of them have a specific context in the anime). I sort of overlook having to feed and clean their poop, though at least in the 4U you can potty train them.
