it does work if you have a marketing budget
i've seen advertisements for kingshot (the thronefall mobile clone) on every single social media platform i've used in the last 2 weeks
unsurprisingly the game has made 35million
additionally, check this out
3.5 million reviews on mobile platforms for a game that was
and i shit you not
a $50 prebuilt game project from the unity store
MVP slop, mass-promote

kek, even for the outliers, they all had intensely efficient promotion from publishers with years of experience
it's not the games that sell, it's the promotion campaigns
slopdevs fail to realize that their games are the products, but not the main focus
you need to learn how to promote your slop if you're trying to get rich from it
i'm not a slopdev so i'm only speaking from theoretical observations, but with every successful slop game, more effort was put into advertising it than actually creating it
additionally, all of the clones flop because the developers randomly dump them on steam and hope people will pick them up
it's all fucking marketing, man
