Sadly Ruby suffers from nearly all symptoms of globohomo (just barely minus the homo part since he's Sapphiresexual) so it's probably incurable
>city boy
>moved away from place of birth
>implied might have visited or even moved regions multiple times = permanent rootlessness
>in original Japanese script he constantly uses English words, implying heavy foreign influence
>only protag whose Pokemon's names are spelled in Romaji like "NANA" "COCO" "RURU" (not even the Unovans do this)
>fatherlessness (broken home) leads to emotional confusion, attention seeking, immaturity, feminine behavior and confused morality
>either struggles with "faith" or just straight up atheist
>narcissistic tendencies
>probably more mental illness symptoms I'm forgetting right now
Sapphire might be dumb, sheltered and naive to things outside Hoenn, but Ruby is at the opposite extreme where while smart, he's also brainrotted on every conceivable level and a lot of it's related to the globalism meme (out of touch with basic human reality/ancestral roots). And many of the causes were likely out of his control since they happened before he was even 10. But thanks to Sapphire he isn't gay on top of everything else, so he isn't too far gone beyond redemption and can at least cope now by living a semi rural life with his tarzan waifu.

This is also why PokeSpe likes implying most of Ruby's redeeming qualities are Sapphire related, since on his own he's just that completely fucked both by his own actions and his circumstances. It's like the point where a therapist realizes they can't help someone's sorry ass by just talking and so advises them to get a pet animal, since keeping something cute alive usually even gets the most whiny depressed fuckers out of bed and being responsible. In that way Sapphire is kind of like Ruby's pet, even if the deck's stacked against him, he stopped whining about how unfair his life is the moment he realized he had someone besides himself to look after
