As soon as you heard about the Legion Bandit Leader’s mysterious death, you knew exactly who was behind it. While frustrated, you decide to give Boone the benefit of the doubt just as he gave you.
It’s a meeting you’re both looking forward to and expecting, but you don’t send out a Securitron to fetch the angst sniper. You wait, letting him arrive in his own time.
And he does. Within a few days of the start of the month, Jane lets you know Craig Boone is heading up the elevator to your office. Putting a small stack of papers in a random drawer, you roll your shoulders and neck out.
Boone knocks before entering, something he’s never done before.
“Hey Courier, woah what happened to you?”
Oh that’s right. You still have bandages over some of your body. You’re sure as hell not going to tell him about the operation gone FUBAR.
[I wasn’t careful around some ruins up North. It’s mostly superficial by this point, hurts like a bitch though.]
He sits down in front of you, his usual stoic act having dropped.
“If you’re hurting, I’m not sure many other guys would have survived it.”
This isn’t like him at all. Boone knows he did something that wasn’t authorized. You can use this. At least he doesn’t seem to be too interested in how you got your wounds.
“Well you might know why I’m here so there’s no use for small talk. We had the Legion agent in custody and with how busy you’ve been, I figure you didn’t have much time for an interrogation. So me and my team took it upon ourselves to make sure there weren’t any other Legion plans in the Mojave. Long story short, we may have gotten a little carried away. The stuff we saw at Nipton during the operation, what he not only confessed but relished in? Some of it hit the team personally. He didn’t reveal any further Legion operations, but not for a lack of trying. I have to give it to those Frumentarii, they’re some tough bastards. So I want to apologize for moving without your authorization. I will say this, you can’t do everything on your own. Before you make a judgement on me, ask yourself if the end result would have been different.”
You can tell Boone is nervous, though you’re not sure why. Taking initiative seems to be exactly what First Recon is known for.
