I've rejected so many degree holding applicants over the years because they put so much stock in that piece of paper but were outshone by some dickhead who could ace the engineering challenge, had an interesting set of skills and didn't come across as a cocky little shit.

They always react the same way when they proudly say "Ahahah yeah I graduated in the top 10% of my class, 1st degree honours" and I say "and I'm super impressed. Now, here's a simple scenario-" and give them a low ball question. The confidence draining out of their face is like being splashed by a cool wet stream on a hot summers day.

One of them had the cheek to say "That wasn't fair!" when I graded them and told them what they could have done better. Little man, life isn't fair. Your parents failed you if you managed to get to 21-22 and know that.
