There's more fat artists now for the same reason there's more plump artists. And girls in anime have much bigger breasts. A combination of digital art aides and the internet expanding the popularity/amount of artists making stuff. SBBW stuff is still super niche. But while you only had like 3 artists doing it in the late 90s, you can find hundreds doing it now. While it's still only like 0.01% of the fanart market. Because there's a million+ artists now.
