I'm guessing grass types. I think they'd be the most useful for farming, which is what early white settlers would use them for alongside the grass pokemon.

To keep them in line before the slaves made friends with the pokemon and broke out. I think that'd be an amazing story to see play out. Theres no way in hell that Pokemon would touch that topic. But I'd enjoy seeing them find their freedom. You could build an entire mythos on the concept.
