It'd be pretty funny if the South winning the civil war actually improved race relations in the long run because the eventual abolition of slavery (and yes, that would have happened, you can't stop the march of technology) would have been a choice that Southerners made for themselves, the resentment over the war that drove Jim Crow would largely be absent. So you'd either have a less extreme form of segregation or even desegregation occurring a few decades earlier.
