Putin and Trump spoke for almost an hour, discussing Ukraine in particular, according to Putin's aide Ushakov.

According to him, President Trump raised the issue of an early end to military operations. Putin noted that "the search for a political negotiated solution to the 'conflict' continues."

"Russia will pursue its goals and will not back down from them, Putin told Trump," Ushakov added.

He also said that Putin congratulated Trump on the Fourth of July holiday and noted Russia's contribution to the formation of American statehood.
