Argentina's National Intelligence Service (SIDE) has uncovered a group of Russians who were building a local influence network to promote Moscow’s interests, spread disinformation, manipulate public opinion, and attempt to influence internal affairs in Argentina, the Argentine newspaper La Derecha Diario reports.

Among other activities, members of the group created and disseminated content on social media and attempted to influence the work of local civil society organizations, foundations, and NGOs.

According to Argentina's intelligence services, a Russian citizen named Lev Andriashvili — who lives in Argentina — was involved in the scheme. He was responsible for financing the network and establishing connections with local activists. His accomplice was his wife, Irina Yakovenko, also a Russian citizen and Argentine resident.

Both were in charge of receiving direct funding from Moscow and developing ties with pro-Russian agents and organizations within Argentina.

Investigators traced their activities to an organization called La Compañía, which Andriashvili and Yakovenko are linked to. According to La Derecha Diario, this organization is connected to Project Lakhta — a multifaceted operation targeting audiences in the United States, European Union countries, and Ukraine. The project was funded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of Russia’s private military company Wagner.

"The goal of La Compañía was to form a group of individuals committed to Russia’s interests," Manuel Adorni, spokesperson for the Presidency of Argentina, stated.
