That's pretty cool actually.
I had a very successful run just now using that combo.
Also the game kept handing me over halberds with the boss element weakness but I didn't see a single shield through the entire run, so I ended up dual wielding instead.
The worst part is that unlike staves and seals, there's no place to get greatshields guaranteed as far as I know.
