I've seen a few of these "unfortunate heroine" stories base their premise off of a hyper-specific "movie-original unfortunate heroine" character archetype
>invented specifically for an anime original movie
>because she isn't canon to the main story the writers kill her off by the end to tie up loose ends
>first half of the movie endears her to the viewer and establishes how she "just wants to be an ordinary girl with ordinary dreams"
>but her cruel fate means that if she doesn't die the world will be in danger
>MC will try to save her but fail and she'll sacrifice herself to "protect the world that you live in"
>bittersweet ending where the MC has some treasured keepsake from her and fulfills some mundane dream that she had in her place
and I'm wondering if it's really that common because the only one I can think of that fits the bill exactly is Senna from Bleach.
