None meme answer, they over stretched their forces around the point when they decided invading neutral countries like Thailand and the Philippines was a 'good idea'. If it were up to me I'd just stick to holding unto Manchuria and Korea as well as patch things up with the Vietnamese and Laotians so I wouldn't have to fight them and the French at the same time.
That and the whole lend lease aid from the USA gave new life to the Soviet Union that was basically on the brink of collapse before that.

Japan's mainland was already devastated long before muh nooks. Sure it made sense in the past to just build houses out of paper since back then they'd just get knocked down by tsunami's and earthquakes so rebuilding was piss easy but once Uncle Sam figured out we could just tape some firecrackers to bats and release them over their major cities well I'm sure the fire department was exhausted after putting out their hundredth fire.
Probably would have helped had they put more effort into making Indonesia a proper ally too, sure they were friendly enough since Indo's were just happy to finally have the Dutch gone minus some disagreements but transforming those patch of islands into a proper national identity and standardizing on weapons an what not would have formed a military alliance on par with what the UK and France had to bare against Germany.
My thoughts on the matter anyway.
