hypersonic missiles do not need to exit the atmosphere and can travel at a much more direct trajectory

also most ballistic missiles have MIRVS which is what is meant to confuse interceptors

lastly the early warning radar could not track a hypersonic missile with a 10 minute hang time before impact, as hypersonics do not need to exit the atmosphere
