I think part of the issue is that ciaccona's story was not part of the main story so they have to assume (correctly) that people skipped it. It featured a simpler version of the same ability, with the poets story (source) being corrupted into the curse (fiction), the protagonist switcheroo (poets into echo band) and the solution being finding the actual conclusion (the poets loved ragunna and would not curse it) and derailing the story back into it. But basically I think a story book will be given every time you're fighting cristoforo because of the nature of how you beat him.
