RPGs, especially JRPGs are games about numbers, stats specifically.

While some JRPGs are more simplistic than others, the stats still matter, and good JRPGs are about creating puzzles built around stats and abilities to mitigate or negate weaknesses while exploiting strengths.

This doesn't happen in Yoshi-P's games. Because FFXIV is a basic bitch WOW clone, it designs its game around skill spam rotations, for example a black mage you just use your CDs and spam fire or ice or w/e is currently meta, it doesn't matter that you're fighting a bomb or ice flan, you just spam the meta ability because the game doesn't care about elements, it just cares about how big your item level on all your stat sticks are to calculate generic damage, being a basic bitch WOW clone every job has to fulfill the dogshit trinity of MMO class design, where the only differences between the classes is at best a different rotation, or at worse horrible imbalance because there are no niches to exploit, no boss puzzles to solve, just raw gear checks, so either every tank is effectively the same, or one tank has an edge over the others and you're a retard for playing anything other than the meta tank, instead of designing a game where every job gets to shine in their own way, and you can just swap jobs and gear as needed for different encounters.

And FFXVI you're litterally a fire esper who can abosrb other espers, your basic abilities are all fire based, so when you run into a bomb and it doesn't automatically blow up when you hit it with fira, or the fact you have phoenix abilities that don't heal, don't auto-life, and don't do extra damage to undead when you already have ifrit abilities that are also all fire based shows just how creatively bankcrupt they are
