I was reading an Arab Muslim's account of when he went to India, this is back in the late middle ages like when they first went into India with Tamerlane (i think, been a while). I had to put the book down and laugh.
After looking over everything, he concluded that India was God's way of saying to the Arabs "if you turn away from me, this is what happens to you" and he remained devout the rest of his life.
