I think the Elders probably wanted the Kongs gone too.
Daiyu mentions that the Kongs were changing Hongyuan's culture a lot, including letting the lesser families actually move up in the world, and that this stopped after their deaths and it just went back to the Four Pillars (Jia, Shi, Wang, Xue) running everything. If the Elders were obsessed with maintaining their perfect vision of Hongyuan then some lesser family suddenly taking over and changing things around probably had them all seething.
