Maybe in America, where people own their property and they can price what they produce however they want and compete with others.

In a caste system low castes cannot price what they produce and amass a fortune. In fact, the lands they live on and the tools they use are most likely property of people from higher castes which either leases them to the lower castes and/or taxes them a lot.

People from lower castes willfully submit to that because:
>they are kept purposedly without education so they don't revolt
Go look at the literacy rates in India by caste. You'll notice that lower castes are essentially illiterate.
>they are indoctrinated since children that their one purpose in life is to serve the higher castes
>the social, economic and juridical systems around them is set in a way that purposedly keeps them at that level
For instance, if a low caste gets uppity a high caste may rape and murder him in cold blood and face zero repercussions from police. A low caste individual lives in a low caste area so other low caste individuals (who have internalized the system) will enforce the system too.

In ancient China, for instance, some emperors hated the merchant caste because it was the only one who could amass a fortune and be wealthier than people from higher castes. What's more is that they could get some political influence in their areas AND speak with foreigners, which they saw as a threat, so they were heavily regulated.

In the USA there is something similar(-ish) to a caste: the homeless. They're essentially not people and the system they exist in is set up in such a way that it's virtually impossible to get out of that situation.
