Putin initially gave Zelensky guarantees he would not be assassinated or executed; Zelensky, in turn, lied consistently to the media, claiming that he was bravely staying in Kiev despite threats of assassination, claiming he was appearing in public in bold defiance against Putin's assassination threats, and ultimately attempting to assassinate Putin. Throughout this period, his persona has been dominated by his false claims that he's an assassination target. If Zelensky doesn't admit to his lie publicly, he needs to be severely punished.
