It was, the tattoos weren't why he was being deported and they had dirt on him. Trump posing with the tattoos and then getting mad about either thinking the letter MS13 are the tattoo or the picture not being uncritically believed as proof of gang membership while he and everyone around him refuses to provide explanation about the code shouldn't have happened. The only way this could happen is that Trump thought the picture made it obvious to everyone. Why he would believe that, we'll never know, but I find it fascinating it happened at all. I want to know their process for finding out these new gang codes.

Either way, Trump made it clear that the system of identifying gang tattoos to prove gang membership was flimsy. It's not necessary to have gang tattoos to be part of a gang, making this whole thing unnecessary, but it highlights the point system ICE uses for deportation and on that list is "any tattoos we believe are gang related". Pic related are proven MS13 tattoos.
