>dutch isnt much closer to english than german
I didnt say it was closer to English. I said the vocabulary that the Frisians and Danes use for common things is much closer to what English speakers would understand. German today is dominated by Southern and Eastern dialects and those are very distant from English.
Picrel. I had ChatGPT come up with a random list of 20 common words in all 4 languages. 5 of those words (door, window, pen, knife, fork) would be recognizable in either Danish, Frisian, Dutch, but not German to the average English speaker.
