One of my family members spent more than a year at Buchenwald after resistance activities. He never spoke nor wrote about something like this, instead what he told us echoed things like Primo Levi's book. Then again Buchenwald like most KZs was a huge organisation spanning dozens of sub-camps, so maybe he never saw the masturbators and rollercoasters. A large part of what he could see was run by communist inmates through the capo system. He weighed less than 30kg when the Americans liberated the camp. Ironically after the war he met some of his highschool friends who were imprisoned for having joined the SS.
I don't think there were a lot of Jews at Buchenwald, because most Eastern European Jews weren't deported to Germany but to Poland or were killed by bullets, and German Jews mostly escaped before 1940. Maybe Dutch or Italian Jews?
inb4 2/3 of the other soldiers of my family at the time surrendered.
