The considered option is grandfathering with the guns being able to be used as their previous classification (former nr guns can be used on crown land/hunting).
The buyback would be made optional for those who want to liquidate their guns instead of living with prohibs.
Their main concerns beyond cost is the abysmal rate of compliance that they'll get, and the open refusal of some provinces to cooperate.
It's not great, but if the ban completes and the conversation ends, it'll be a dead and taboo topic by the next election.
Obviously this still sucks, but we're depressingly low on options beyond just not complying with anything, and not everyone lives in a (relatively) based province.
This is all just talk, but they'll be under pressure to announce something by the October deadline.
