Ukrainian Intelligence Claims Former Coach of Russian Boxer Killed in Mali

Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) has claimed that Igor Nesterov, a Russian mercenary and former coach for heavyweight boxer Alexander Povetkin, was killed in Mali. The claim, first reported by Ukrainian news agencies citing intelligence sources, stated Nesterov was killed while on a "combat mission" in the West African nation.
Nesterov was a strength and conditioning coach and sparring partner for Povetkin, a former WBA world champion. According to the intelligence reports, Nesterov was a member of the Wagner Group, a private military company now operating in Africa as the "Africa Corps." Ukrainian sources also state that Nesterov had previously participated in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
While Ukrainian outlets have widely reported the claim, Russian officials have not issued a statement. However, the "World of Boxing" promotion company and Povetkin himself have reportedly acknowledged Nesterov's death and offered condolences, confirming his passing without specifying the circumstances or location.
