yes, monetarily Germany might be "paying more than receiving" but there are indirect benefits such as trade, manufactured goods, political capital and soft power in the form of also being able to keep the block together wich is obviously beneficial to a central european power if one wishes to view it from the lens of "oh my god what's in it for me in pure material/power terms" and is unmotivated by the notions that politics can actually be guided by values in some regards if a society actually agrees on it
I'd also like to point out that no matter how much any nation pays to the EU, the unification gradations it enables far outstrip the cost imparted by maintaining it, similar to how a molecule gets more stable when the electrons aren't "kept" (i know electrons have no exact location fuck off with your hairsplitting for this analogy) to this or that atom exclusively
And Europe is a complex molecule that is more capable for it
